I Have Been Hacked.
Also, All My Uncles Are Fine.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: I Have Been Hacked. Also, All My Uncles Are Fine.
Friends, it has come to my attention that a fake “John William Roberts” is floating around Facebook posting AI-generated photos of “me” at the bedside of a “dying uncle,” asking for your prayers and — surprise, surprise — eventually your money for some bogus “estate sale.”
Let me clear a few things up:
That is not me. Exhibit A: the man in that photo is wearing a collared polo shirt. Anyone who knows me knows I haven’t voluntarily worn a collar like that since the Clinton administration.
That is not my uncle. All of my uncles are alive, well, and located in Pennsylvania — Steelers country. If one of my uncles were actually in the hospital, he would not be in a powder-blue gown. He’d have demanded a black-and-gold one, hung a Terrible Towel from the IV pole, and asked the nurse if the game was on.
I have no estate sale. I have nothing to sell you. I don’t want your money, and I don’t need your money. If the Lord has put generosity on your heart, wonderful — give it to Him. Give it to Grace Church. Give it to a ministry doing real work. Do NOT give it to a scammer with a fake polo and a rented uncle.
I will never solicit money on Facebook. Ever. I wouldn’t even hold a cardboard sign on a street corner — I’m far too proud for that nonsense, which is probably a sin I should work on, but not today.
So if “I” message you asking for prayers, gift cards, wire transfers, or bids on Uncle Nobody’s imaginary estate: report it, block it, and pray for the scammer, because they clearly need it more than my perfectly healthy uncles do.
The real me will see you Sunday. Collar-free, as the Lord intended.
— The actual Pastor John

Letting you know that I am not on Facebook at all. Have not seen any here. Thanks for the report.
I am sorry that you have to go to this extent to deny this/these wretched hackers. I do not understand these people!
